This Japanese-language brochure presents the outcomes of 'The Hirado Conservation and Development Workshop' of November 2017, concerning conservation and development of the historical center of the city of Hirado, a former Dutch trading post in Japan.
How can the historical features contribute to the current needs of the city? And vice versa, what impulses can offer a new basis of existence and future prospects for the historical features at stake? The workshop was held at the initiative of the JNACA (Japanese and Netherlands Architecture Cultural Association) and the municipality of Hirado for Japanese architecture students from several Japanese universities and was organized within the framework of the Shared Cultural Heritage programme by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands in collaboration with the Dutch architects Space & Matter, and supported by the Dutch embassy in Japan.
